Great day today, weather held out and we picked the much quieter of the 2 possible routes which brought us along the west side of Volga river. We stopped for lunch at one of the many roadside cafes, solyanka, bread and tea/coffee on the menu. We had a good laugh with the 2 women working there, I think they thought we were mad!.
About an hour from Saratov we needed fuel so we topped up and Kev went to pay, he came back with a twix and a drink (always eating!) for us both. While we stood on the forecourt devouring the twix, the man that owns the petrol station came out with 4 sausage rolls and gave them to us. After we ate them we popped back in to thank him, next his mother turned up with a bowl of grapes and tea for us!. The generosity and helpfulness we have found here is amazing, Russian people are fantastic (apart from the nutter that tried to shoot us!).
Kev had to take the injector out again today to give it a clean, I think we are just pushing the dirt around in it but it seems to last longer each time before clogging up! We have now got the clean down to around 15mins :).
Arrived in Saratov late afternoon, weather was lovely and sunny so we rode around the city looking for a place to stay. Saratov has the feeling of a smaller older city, the roads are narrower compared to the wide open soviet style cities we have been through. We parked up at the end of a pedestrian shopping area at you guessed it, and Irish bar!. While Kev was eating (again) and having a beer I walked down the street as we had a waypoint for a hotel. Right in the centre was the Hotel Volga, yet another old Soviet hotel, booked the night and secure parking around the back. After a shower and change we went for a stroll around the city, and guess what! Kev found a McDonalds!
